Finally wrapping up some details on my shop changes. Finished up this corner workbench with some polyurethane today. I think it turned out pretty nice and I wrapped the support structure with some leftover plywood to dress it up a bit too. I don't have a tv in this corner since we canceled our cable service and I'm kind of liking the increase in productivity. I never noticed how simple history channel mornings really cut into my deadlines.

If you are a certain father, you may notice that there have been no more heating calls. We now are proud new owners (with smaller pocket books) of a fancy high efficiency gas furnace. With all the tax credits it was cheaper to put in a shiny new unit than fix our 20 year old heat pump. No more AC in the summer, but we'll live I think. I even got back around $100 in scrap from turning in all the copper and aluminum from the old unit.

The other bonus is that now my shop is "heated". A realtor friend told me that being able to advertise a heated shop is really big news for resale. The wiring isn't finished and it is only an electric furnace (called a heat strip in the HVAC world) but it's better than nothing. I plan to keep using my propane space heater, but this will be a nice air cleaner when I build the filter frame.

I like it! I've heard of others putting there out furnaces to use in their shops.
